Seniors' demand for downsizing to different accommodation is increasing at an equally fast rate. They are changing their residence for various reasons:

- ability to manage independently
- loss of significant other
- social interests (closeness to family and friends)
- desire to lessen demands on themselves and grown children
- sense of safety
- financial needs
This is a complex set of considerations, often leading to a home sale, and having to choose from numerous residential options available to address seniors' changing needs.
